IQAC

In accordance with its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment, accreditation, and quality up-gradation of institutions of higher education, the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) proposes that each accredited institution establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality maintenance measure. Since quality improvement is an ongoing process, the IQAC will become a part of the institution's system and work towards achieving quality improvement and maintenance objectives. The primary responsibility of the IQAC is to build a mechanism for the conscious, consistent, and catalytic development of institutions' overall performance. Consequently, during the post-accreditation phase, the institution will direct all of its efforts and actions toward promoting its comprehensive academic excellence.

STRATEGIES

IQAC must develop systems and procedures for: 
Ensuring timely, effective, and progressive academic, administrative, and financial tasks performance
The significance and excellence of academic and research programmes
Access to and affordability of educational programmes for all segments of society.
Optimization and integration of contemporary instructional practises
The validity of evaluation techniques
Assuring the upkeep, functionality, and appropriateness of the support structure and services
Research collaboration and networking with other Indian and international institutes

FUNCTIONS

Some of the functions expected of the IQAC are:

  • Development and implementation of quality benchmarks/parameters for the institution's academic and administrative activities.
  • Facilitating the construction of a learner-centered environment that is favourable to quality education and faculty maturation in adopting the necessary knowledge and technology for a participative teaching and learning process
  • Plan for students, parents, and other stakeholders to provide input on quality-related institutional processes.
  • dissemination of information on numerous higher education quality parameters
  • Organization of inter-institutional workshops and seminars on quality-related topics, and promotion of quality circles
  • Documentation of the many programs/activities that contribute to quality enhancement
  • Assisting the Institution in organising quality-related initiatives, such as the adoption and distribution of best practises, and serving as its focal point
  • The creation and management of an institution's database using MIS for the purpose of preserving/improving the institution's quality.
  • Institutional Improvement of Quality Culture
  • Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) in accordance with NAAC's requirements and parameters, for submission to NAAC.

COMPOSITION

IQAC may be constituted in every institution under the Chairmanship of the Head of the institution with heads of important academic and administrative units and a few teachers and a few distinguished educationists and representatives of local management and stakeholders.

The IQAC may include the following elements:

  • Chairperson: Chief Executive Officer of the Institution
  • Several prominent administrative personnel
  • Three to eight professors
  • One representative from Management
  • One or two nominations from the community, Students, and Alumni
  • One or two individuals nominated by Employers/Industrialists/Stakeholders
  • One of the senior teachers as the coordinator/Director of the IQAC
